May TipsFrom: Margaret

Plant up hanging baskets and ensure the soil and patio planter’s is kept moist.

Whip the heads of flowers that are fading or dead as this will encourage new flowers to grow and move houseplants outside in the sun!

You can now plant tomatoes in a your greenhouse, no heating required, grow pots are good and can be found in any garden centre and are designed for use with grow-bags.

Tips for FebruaryFrom: Margaret

February is a month that’s wet and cold but there are still jobs to do such as planting seeds in pots indoors, pruning fruit trees, roses and ivy and replace any rotting or broken stakes.

If you notice pools of water laying on the lawn, use a garden fork to spike the area and try and keep off the lawn when it is very wet and waterlogged as you will probably damage it.

Daffodils Tulips Slugs and WeedsFrom: Margaret

April is the time to see daffodils in bloom and tulips won’t be far behind.

You will need to think about sowing any flowering plants by the end of April too and plants, such as the hardy chrysanthemum, should be fine outside but consider laying a fleece to warm the soil.

Do something now about the threat of slug attacks as these will be imminent around now and any plants needing supports will have to be dealt with now so get them canes in the ground and tie your plants to them.

Weeds will start to show an interest so do keep on top of this job before you’re over run.
